ESTATE

In the old days, wild horses found refugee in the valley named after them.

In the 1600s - 1700s the farm was used as a veterinary base for the Voortrekkers' horses. It served as a hospital and breeding place, because of the many hiding spaces the hills provided.

Today, Paardenkloof Estate is a celebration of environmental intelligence and sustainability in farming and winemaking.

The perennial Swart river forms the northern boundary of the farm. During winter months the Gouka river flows into the Swart river and represents the eastern boundary. Babylonstoring Mountain, in the south, is the highest peak in the Overberg at 1945 m and provides the farm with plenty of water. The Leeuwriver forms the farm's western boundary.

In between these boundaries lies Paardenkloof Estate with its 1430 ha of sheer beauty. Of this, 24 ha are dedicated to winemaking and another 180 ha to cattle farming. The remaining 80 % of the land is pristine fynbos territory and forms part of the farm's nature conservation undertaking.
